Drone Seeding Demonstration

Wallasey Golf Club is set to become the first golf course in the UK to trial the use of cutting-edge drone technology for seeding and spraying, thanks to an association between the club and QuadRotor Services Ltd (QRS). The demonstration, conducted by Auto Spray Systems Ltd (ASL) on Friday 19th May 2023, commencing 07:30hrs, will take place in the lead up to the club's preparations for the Open Championship 20th - 23rd July 2023 (hosted by Royal Liverpool Golf Club).

This demonstration is the first of its kind in the UK, with ASL being granted the first "Operational Authority" from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for "Agricultural Spraying Operations" using large XAG autonomous drones.

This major milestone for the commercial drone industry opens the door for the use of drone spraying / seeding technology across the UK, following the UK Government's ambition statement and vision for commercial drones. By 2030, the government aims to have 900,000 commercial drones in operation, creating 650,000 new jobs. It is expected this will contribute up to £45bn to the UK economy, saving businesses £22bn and reducing Co2 emissions by 2.4m tons.

The use of drone technology for spraying and seeding at Wallasey Golf Club demonstrates the club's commitment to innovation and improving the quality of its course. The club’s recent major investment in upgrading the course has seen it rise 61 places in Golf Monthly’s Top 100 Golf Courses in the UK, currently sitting at 89 in the rankings.

ASL, supported by QRS recently conducted a successful demonstration of XAG P40 drone seeding technology for Forest Research. Showcasing its exceptional capabilities in tackling difficult terrain on the challenging slopes surrounding ‘Rest and be Thankful’ on the A83, which is the main arterial road for the West Coast of Scotland.
